I’ve contemplated going back to Maya but I hate the GUI so even though I could afford it now I’m not going to. The game never went anywhere but hey, I’m back in 3D =) so I’m happy. We were using Ogre3D at the time, which had the most support for blender so I started looking into it and after a few months was able to build stuff. One day while working on a side game project with some friends we decided we needed a 3D artist so I stepped up to the task. I eventually left school in favor of working as a programmer so I lost my access to the Maya workstations. I liked it, got some training videos and made some headway – but I didn’t own a license of it so I couldn’t use it outside of school. It wasn’t till my 4th year in Junior College till I started getting back into 3D again with some Maya classes that were offered. I had no modeling package so for the next 6 years I did nothing in realm of 3D. My Amiga’s were eventually retired about midway though high school in favor of a faster PC. I stuck with Light Wave on my new Amiga 4000 till version 4. If you happen to be a new player or have not adventured in Shadowbane for many an age, makes sure you check out the Getting Started guide. Only 13 at the time but that’s what I wanted to do and somehow I talked my parents into getting me an Amiga 1200 with Light Wave 3.5. My love for 3D started after I saw Jurassic Park back in 1993. Now- having choice of spending ***load of money or learning I decided to sit and start learning seriously and… here I am and I do not think I will move back I knew about Blender since beginning I think, I tried several times to learn it but- well- there was always Maya or Max around so I had no real motivation to learn it- I was much more effective with other soft. I live out of 3d so you can imagine it was not just a matter of my personal interest, hobby or new toy but rather: will I have something to put on bread or not. Autodesk refused to re- issue license and as you can imagine my company was not too willing to buy another copy so I got left without tool. I had to send comp to service and when it came back license did not worked anymore (changes in hardware setup). I installed everything, registered soft and then hardware crashed. Now- I bought a new machine and my company bought for me new license of Maya 8.5. I’ve been working with Maya last 6 years or so.
